Sketches from a dream I had, in which I found a sketchbook full of drawings of someone working out a character; gangly quiet anime kid of vaguely masculine leaning, shades of a style like Ajin: Demi-human but decidedly more adult, they have a symbiotic demonic armour or skin that they have to feed via sex. My version is a lot messier, linework-wise. I might have to try and expand this into a pitch for the next nsfw monster comic thing that (in before ‘phrasing’) comes along.
Sketches from trivia. So I started using one of these recently, and it’s taking some getting used to after five Moleskines in a row. Downsides include a spiral binding, a weird, loose, sliding cover which the little ribbons that tie it shut only partly solves. Upside is that the paper has an infinitely better texture than Moleskine’s, and it’s only a little more prone to marker bleedthrough, and I’m probably trying their hardbound version next.
Reworked another older painting, this one from 2008. The anatomy was wonky, and there were some ‘mushy’ bits in terms of form in general, that I tried to clear up. The sigil on their chest is Chumbley’s Seal of Shaitan from Qutub, I did this after the first time I’d read it. Prints & stuff are up, too. p[lease fullview, enough of the colour luminosity gets lost in the scanning as it is.
The Black Star Reliquary; this is one of the Sooper Sekrit pieces I’ve been sitting on for a maddening amount of time; a Bowie for my mom’s birthday, she just got the original in the mail and you can get prints here right now. Not only is he her favourite musician, he was also an early unconscious influence on me because of that. The Patron Saint of the Weird Kids. I tried to get a wide range of his personae and ages, and it was harder than expected, each one was pretty much a separate person, but in doing so I saw where a lot of other characters and musicians who are more consciously a part of my headspace had been cribbed from and made as tribute to his influence. Working on this made for an an interesting meditation on identity.
Since this is getting kicked around again and someone was kind enough to remove my comments for me, the project this was to be a part of seems to be dead as far as i can tell, but you can get this piece on all sorts of things at my Redbubble store.

Drawing monsters into existing photos is really, really fun, guys. Original images from here and here. The second is under a Creative Commons, but I was mistaken on the first because i’d saved it to the wrong folder. I couldn’t find any way to contact them & ask (I don’t have an Instagram and their asks aren’t open) so if it’s yours & you want it taken down, let me know, I’m just doing this for shits & giggles & to get a better handle on atmosphere and placing weird figures in spaces.
Have some digital painting i will never ever finish because everything else i’m doing is SOOPER SEKRIT, from reference, second to last image.
Albuquerque sketches, from planes and during panels, and roughly in order of both time and coherency.
